A reconstruction of one of the ex-Soviet Air Force MiG-17s delivered by the USSR to the newly established and Hodeida-based 111th Squadron YARAF in 1968. Left in ‘bare metal overall’ (or ‘silver-grey’) – which quickly wore out – the aircraft received a typical set of markings for this air force, including roundels applied on each side of the fin (and four usual positions on the wing). Note the large, Soviet-style ‘bort number’ (53) applied in blue – or in red – on the forward fuselage. Another example from this batch wore the serial number 10 (or ‘0010’) and was later put on display at Sana’a in commemoration of the YARAF’s achievements during the 70-day battle.
