Palestinian armed factions in south Lebanon began attacking Israel more frequently in 1969, bringing damaging Israeli retaliation. Lebanese Army efforts to quell the violence were inadequate and sometimes the Syrians weighed in as well on the side of their Palestinian clients. The tiny Lebanese Air Force would occasionally be called in to offer air support. Among the assets were a handful of Hawker Hunters like this F.70 equipped with rockets. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
