Two examples of the Lohner-built Etrich Taube were acquired from Austria in 1912. They were used by the Flying Battalion at Nanjing, which was the first aviation unit in China with a formal organisation and designation. The Taube was fitted with a 65/70hp Austro-Daimler engine.
