F-100D 52739, Escadre de Chasse 4/11 ‘Jura’, Djibouti - F-100D 55-2739 was transferred to the French Air Force in November 1961, one of 88 single-seaters and 12 F-100Fs delivered. Super Sabres served with 3ème and 11ème Escadre de Chasses, with 52739 initially going to the former (which transitioned to the Dassault Mirage III from 1966) before being transferred to the latter. EC 4/11 was activated at Djibouti on 1 January 1973 with seven F-100Ds and a single F-100F, parented by the 11ème Escadre de Chasse based at Toul- Rosières. The other three squadrons of the wing converted to the SEPECAT Jaguar A in 1975 and 1976, leaving EC 4/11 as the final French operator of the Super Sabre. EC 4/11’s aircraft were painted in a desert-style scheme to better blend in over the African landscape, and later in its existence they gained a large sharkmouth. Four of its aircraft were equipped for reconnaissance. EC 4/11 ended Super Sabres operations on 12 December 1978. After being withdrawn, 52739 languished at Djibouti until it was shipped to France in January 1989 for the private collection at Savigny-les-Beaune. By 2006, its fuselage was at Skydstrup in Denmark, where it was restored with the tail and wings from a TF-100F and painted as ‘G-183’ for display at the Danmarks Flymuseum at Stauning.
