F-100A 0147, 21st Fighter Bomber Squadron, Chiayi, Republic of China - F-100A 0147 was part of the initial batch of 80 F-100As supplied to the Chinese Nationalist Air Force (Republic of China Air Force, RoCAF) from August 1958, originally becoming 147 before the four digit serial was adopted. Prior to being flown to Taiwan the aircraft had the taller tail with an AN/APS-54 tail warning radar fitted. Other changes included the installation of a radio compass, an arrester hook under the rear fuselage and new pylons compatible with AIM-9 Sidewinder airto- air missiles or AGM-12 Bullpup air-to-surface missiles. The aircraft were referred to as ‘F-100A rehabs’. Before being supplied to the Nationalist Chinese, 0147 was 53-1666 assigned to Tactical Air Command’s 4520th Combat Crew Training Wing (CCTW) at Nellis AFB, Nevada, which was activated by redesignating the 3595th CCTW in July 1958, responsible for training North American F-86 Sabre and F-100 Super Sabre aircrew from 1954. It served with the RoCAF’s 21st Fighter Bomber Squadron under the 4th Fighter Bomber Wing from Chiayi, located in the centre of Taiwan. The squadron flew Super Sabres between 1960 and 1978, when it transitioned to the Northrop F-5E Tiger II. The aircraft is understood to have become an instructional airframe in Kouhsiung after it was retired, but was scrapped in 1993.
