Between April 1981 and June 1988, Iraq acquired a total of 86 Dassault Mirage F.1EQ single-seaters, and 15 Mirage F.1BQ two-seaters. Thanks to their advanced navigation and weapons control systems, the four units operating them deployed them for day-time CAS, interdiction, tactical bombing, strategic bombing, naval strikes, and air defence. Most of the fleet wore the standardised camouflage pattern in Brun Café (dark sand, FS30475) and Khaki (FS36134) on top surfaces and sides, and light blue grey (FS35189) on undersurfaces. This Mirage F.1EQ-4 is shown with some of the mostfrequently deployed weaponry, including (from left to right) the Matra Super 530F air-to-air missile, Remora ECM-pod, two SAMP Type-21 general purpose bombs (under the wing), a Matra R.550 Magic Mk.I air-to-air missile (wingtip), BLG-66 Belouga CBU, and the South-African CBU.470. Shown under the centreline is the giant, Irakien drop tank of 2,200-litre capacity. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
