The F2H-2P illustrated here, BuNo. 125681, was assigned to Detachment 34 from VC-62 aboard USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN, CVA-39. The three-digit 9XX modex is still in use, and the modex is repeated on the external tank in red. The aircraft carries the carrier’s “F” tail code but does not have the white nose band usually associated with VC-62. Instead, the aircraft featured a white fin cap and white stripes on the rudder.
