The heaviest element of the GT-2 was a company equipped with seven T-34/85 tanks. Although hopelessly obsolete as of the early 1980s, thiswas still a powerful vehicle for Angolan circumstances. As usual, the Cuban-operated T-34/85s in Angola were left in their olive green overall colour. While it remains unknown if those of the GT-2 wore any kind of turret insignia, this example is shown with markings identifying it as the 1st vehicle in the 1st Platoon of either the 2nd Company of an unknown unit – or the GT-2. As far as is known, ambushes by SADF ground troops and air strikes by the SAAF resulted in this unit losing 16 Cuban officers and other ranks killed, 76 wounded, and having to write o 3 T-34/85s, 1 BRDM-2, 1 BTR-60PB, and 7 other vehicles.
