Ten Curtis C-46 Commandos were the first heavy transports to serve with the IDF/AF. They were acquired from USAF surplus stocks and smuggled to Israel with help of fake registrations of the Panamanian airline LAPSA. By late 1948, their top sides were camouflaged in olive green, while undersurfaces were left in natural metal. Some examples – like RX-134 shownhere – still wore full LAPSA registrations.
