Hawker Hurricane Mk I V7118, No.306 Squadron, Tern Hill
No.306 Squadron was formed at Church Fenton on 28 August 1940 as the third Polish squadron within the RAF. It was equipped with Hurricane Mkis, with V7118 delivered to the unit in late 1940 after being taken-on charge with the RAF on 13 November. The squadron moved to Tern Hill in November 1940 and upgraded to the Hurricane Mklia in April 1941, relocating at the same time to Northolt. Hurricane V7118 passed to No.256 Squadron at Squires Gate, the unit acquiring examples of the single-seat fighter to supplement its Boulton-Paul Defiant night fighters, which were suffering a high accident rate. Its time with the unit was relatively brief, however. On 10 October 1941 it was struck-off charge, and five days later the maintenance serial 2743M was issued to the airframe. The Hurricane was used as an instructional airframe until it was scrapped in April 1944.
