| Coalition Aircraft vs Iraqi SAMs: Operation Desert Storm 1991 | 148 |
Jaguar A A38 of EC 3/11, Al Ahsa AB, Saudi Arabia, January 1991 - The key strike element of Operation Daguet (the French component of Desert Storm) were the 28 Jaguar As of the Armée de l’Air's EC 11. Aircraft from all four of the group’s squadrons were sent to Al Ahsa AB in mid-October 1990, and once operations commenced, the Jaguar As undertook battlefield air interdiction. EC 11 initially only struck targets in Kuwait, and four Jaguar As were hit during an attack on Ahmad al-Jaber airfield on January 17. Two lost engines to SA-7s, but all of the jets made it back to base. From January 27, EC 11 was also authorized to attack strategic targets (principally bridges) in Iraq. This aircraft is armed with four 250kg general purpose bombs (two under each wing), and it also carries a Barax DECM pod on its port wing outer pylon.
