F-101B 58-0267, 15th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona - The 15th Fighter Interceptor Squadron (FIS) flew F-101B Voodoos in the air defence role from 1960, when it replaced its Northrop F-89J Scorpions, until it was inactivated on 24 December 1964 and its Voodoos were sent to other units. The squadron was assigned to the Phoenix Air Defense Sector of the 28th Air Division from 1 May 1961 onwards. F-101B 58-0267 is depicted prior to receiving the infra-red detection scanner in front of the nose, which was installed on the fleet between 1961 and 1966. The modification was part of the Interceptor Improvement Program (project Bold Journey) which also added the improved MG-13 fire control system and increased the airframe’s resistance to electromagnetic pulse. By 1976, 58-0267 was flown by the 123rd FIS of the Oregon Air National Guard, going into storage at Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona, in November 1980. In October 1985 it was transported to Sembach AB in West Germany for use as a battle damage training airframe and was scrapped around the end of the decade.
