The F-89A, F-89B, and F-89C were the initial production models of the Scorpion: a big, all-weather interceptor with a fascinating design. The A model entered service in 1951, and featured equipment including guns and rudimentary electronic systems only. Because they were primarily tasked with air defence duties, and the Air National Guard played a crucial role in augmenting activeduty forces during the early stages of the Cold War, F-89As were assigned to such assets as the 120th Fighter-Interceptor Wing of the Montana Air National Guard, illustrated here.
