As in Africa, the Wagner Group deployed numerous Ural-432007 Chekan (shown here) and Shchuka MRAPs in Ukraine. However, the type rapidly proved too thin-skinned for operations in high-threat areas and was usually relegated to secondary tasks; often even retro-converted into trucks with a (thinly) armoured cab. This is a reconstruction of a Chekan still in its original configuration, based upon a vehicle found shot-up and abandoned in the Bakhmut area in March 2023. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
