In summer 2017, the Wagner Group’s operatives deployed to Syria were provided with a single BMPT-72 Terminator tank-support combat vehicle for testing purposes. Based on the chassis of an overhauled T-72 main battle tank, the BMPT was built to support tanks and other armoured fi ghting vehicles in urban combat. For this purpose, it was equipped with an array of optical devices and mounted four 9M120 Ataka-T ATGMs, two 2A42 30mm automatic guns (with 800 rounds), either two AG-17D or two AGS-30 30mm grenade launchers (with 600 rounds), and one PKTM 7.62mm machine gun (with 2,000 rounds). As far as is known, the vehicle saw some combat during the central Syria campaign of 2017 but was back in Russia by 2018. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
