Although famous for its transport role, at ‘one time the Ju 52 equipped the bulk of the Luftwaffe’s bomber squadrons. Bomber group KG 152 was established on 15th March 1936 with Ju 52 3mg3es. In 1937 IV./ KG 152 was split off to become or Kampfgruppe zur besondern Vervendung (Unit for Special Purposes) KGrzbV 1, a mixed bomber/transport outfit. Stab/KG 152 was renamed KG 1 in May 1939. Aircraft 27+E11 shows features of the early Ju 52s including the prominent wheel spats and ‘dustbin’ ventral turret position.
