The Israeli-developed M-50, based on the vintage Sherman tank, continued service in reserve formations, though its 75mm gun was becoming less effective against the latest Soviet tanks being fielded by Arab armies. The Super Sherman, and even the newer M-51 with French 105mm gun, were examples of the armoured vehicles slated to be retired as more modern American equipment was slowly acquired.
