Purposely designed to replace the venerable Douglas DC-3 as a medium transport, the Fokker F.27 made its first flight in 1955 and proved highly popular and a great commercial success. Following in the footsteps of the IIAF, which acquired a total of 12 starting in 1972, the IINA acquired four for liaison and tactical airlift. Two of these were F.27-400M Troopships (equipped for troops or cargo and with wider doors in the rear), and two were F.27-600 Friendships (passenger variant). This F.27-600 is shown in the livery and markings worn immediately on delivery and for a relatively short period of time in late 1975: with upper fuselage surfaces in white, two cheat lines in dark green and one in light blue, the lower sides of the fuselage, and the wing all in gull gray.
