Influenced by the development of air warfare in the skies over Spain in the 1930s, the CAP high command saw the importance of integrating assault aircraft into its doctrine. As a consequence, 10 Douglas 8A-3Ps, a development of the Northrop A-17A attack aircraft series designed for export customers, were ordered in late 1938. The aircraft was powered by a more powerful Wright Cyclone engine and could carry 600kg of bombs. (Artwork by Luca Canossa)
