Even once the USAF assumed responsibility for high-altitude radioactive sampling operations, the CIA retained the capability to run covert flights using a specialised pod and equipment fitted into the Q-bay of its U-2s. This U-2A (Article 353) is shown as equipped with the HASP intake: this was installed on the hatch cover, on the left side of the Q-bay. The jet is shown as still wearing the semi-gloss version of the USN’s Sea Blue (originally designated AN607 non-specular sea blue, later FS25042, and then, in its matt version, FS35042), as applied fleet-wide starting in 1959.
