A reconstruction of Major Chang Li-yi’s U-2C ‘Article 358’, shot down over the PRC on 10 January 1965. Painted in non-specular sea blue overall (FS 35042), this aircraft may have had ‘coke bottle’ intakes. The exact configuration of the equipment installed in the Q-bay and its underbelly antennae remains unclear: this artwork shows what can be reconstructed from the available photographs and various artworks. At least as uncertain is the application of national markings and the installation of the ‘canoe’ dorsal fairing. Available photographs of the wreckage taken immediately after the shoot-down show the large national insignia on the rear fuselage. Recent photographs of its wreckage on display in the PRC show a large national insignia on the forward fuselage: most likely, these were pieces of several different aircraft used to ‘complete’ the wreckage of the ROCAF’s 3512.
