The Japanese Type 0 long-range reconnaissance seaplane (manufacturer name: Aichi E13A) was known by the Allied codename “Jake” (in Japanese: zero shiki suijō teisatsuki - reisui in short). Jake was a very widely used seaplane during the entire Pacific War and thus also appeared in the Aleutian Islands. During the initial phase of the campaign, the seaplane tender Kamikawa Maru brought some Jakes to provide air cover over the conquered Attu and Kiska, yet soon, she was ordered to withdraw due to bold American air attacks.
