Painted in the weathered tactical camouflage pattern consisting of Dark Ghost Gray (FS36320) over Light Ghost Gray (FS36375), F/A-18As from US Marine Corps’ VMFA-314 ‘Black Knights’ squadron showed relatively little in terms of insignia during the 1985–1986 cruise on board USS Coral Sea. The single exception was the traditional fashion of applying that unit’s designation on the sides of the centre fuselage. (Tom Cooper)
