The OT-64 SKOT was a wheeled medium armoured personnel carrier with amphibious capability, designed in Czechoslovakia, but also manufactured in Poland. The Iraqi request for nearly 500 could not be meet by the Czechoslovak industry within the required period of time, and the Czechoslovak People’s Army refused to sell any from its own stocks: thus, Baghdad eventually acquired a total of only 173 OT-64As and OT-64/R2s (all equipped with the same 14.5mm KPVT-armed turret as the Soviet-made BRDM-2 armoured car) in 1969–1970. In the Iraqi Army, the type served in motorised infantry formations, and saw action during the wars with Israel, the Kurds, and Iran. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
