The THK still had a few units operating obsolete ‘straight wing’ F-84G Thunderjet fighter-bombers in 1964: except for the 192 Filo, these were 163, 191 and 193 Filo, of which the former two were meanwhile converting to F-84Fs. At least one of these is reported to have flown air strikes on 8 and 9 August 1964. Their precise weapons’ configuration remains unclear but probably included the older version of AN/M64A1 bombs with ‘short’ fins. It is possible that they were also loaded with up to eight 2.75in/70mm unguided rockets (four under each wing). This Thunderjet (US FY-serial number 51-10920) is known to have served with 191 or 193 Filo from Balikesir AB at the time.
