This three-view artwork shows the Gloster E.28/39 as it appeared on the day of its first flight. At this stage W4041 did not carry the security ‘/G’ associated with the serials on all of Britain’s early jet aircraft. The evidence confirming this is test pilot Michael Daunt’s unofficial 16mm film footage of the E.28/39’s first flight at Cranwell.
