F‑105D‑10‑RE 60‑0497 of the 44th TFS/388th TFW was used by Maj Maurice “Mo" Seaver (who had the call‑sign “Tamale 01") to attack Vinh Yen army barracks on May 13, 1967. As he pulled up from dropping his six 750lb bombs, Seaver saw a camouflaged MiG‑17 ahead of him and fired 500 rounds of ammunition in two bursts, setting it on fire. He was credited with the aircraft’s destruction, its pilot
almost certainly being from the North Korean “Doan Z" group. Seaver’s F‑105D, nicknamed MISS T, was later shot down by a MiG‑21 on November 18, 1967 - two Thunderchiefs fell to “Fishbeds" on his date.
