The first aircraft to carry the five-colour star of the new Chinese Republic was the French Caudron. Of a well-tested design, it was ideal for training and the versions D, E, F and G were acquired by the Beijing government. The G version was apparently copied by the aircraft factory at Nanyuan. The example, displayed at Tianjin in April 1922, was painted all over in an azure-blue colour. (Artwork by Jean-Pierre Baraton)
