AMX-30R/ROLAND - Iraq received 13 AMX-30R tracked chassis for its Roland 2 SAMs in the 1980s, this combination being far less common than the 100 MAN 8x8 truck-mounted Roland 1/2s supplied
by Euromissile at the same time. According to Iraqi sources, all the AMX 30Rs were issued to air defence force missile brigades, while the MAN 8x8 truck-mounted weapons were assigned to the Republican Guard’s corps commands. A total of 160 Roland 1/2 missiles were delivered to Iraq, and they were responsible for downing at least two Coalition aircraft during Desert Storm.
