F-102A 54-1396, 327th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, George AFB, California - The 327th Fighter Interceptor Squadron was the first to fly the Delta Dagger in service, receiving short tail aircraft from April 1956. The squadron became operational on the type on the 24th of that month. It also flew the aircraft from Thule AB in Greenland, but its time with the interceptor was relatively brief, as the last departed the unit on 17 June 1958. F-102A 54-1396 had the original intake design and a unique scheme with a chequered tail, intake lips and stripes on the fuselage, which identified it as belonging to the squadron commander. It last served with the Pacific Air Force’s 68th Fighter Interceptor Squadron from Itazuke AB in Japan, but crashed near the base on 14 March 1960.
