With the reorganisation of its BTGs into assault detachments in late summer and autumn of 2022, the Wagner Group began introducing to service a growing number of BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles. Their principal armament was the same as that of the BMD-3, but their armour proved of much better quality. Typically, one BMP-2 (or BMD-3) was assigned to each assault group, together with a single main battle tank, two mortars (82mm or 120mm), one AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher, and one D-30 howitzer. This BMP-2, largely covered by camouflage netting, belonged to an unidentified assault detachment involved in the advance from Voronezh towards Moscow on 24 June 2024. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
