In Syria during 2015, operatives of the Wagner Group arrived together with a number of UAZ Patriot SUVs. The majority of these were converted into ‘technicals’: civilian cars, SUVs or light trucks, armed with machine guns or light anti-aircraft guns, such as pintle-mounted PKM or PKS machine guns, or ZSU-23-2 twin 23mm guns. This example was equipped with a 14.5mm Dushka heavy machine gun, with a shield for the gunner. Most Patriot SUVs operated by Wagner PMC in Syria were also camoufl aged – usually with whatever suitable colours were available. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
