The ADDF, DDF and UDF all acquired and used Saladin armoured cars over time. In the case of the ADDF, both the Salah ad-Din and Khalifa bin Zayed regiments were equipped with the type which had a 76mm L5A1 gun as its primary armament. Secondary armament included two medium machine guns. The number plate is in black and the red shield indicates the vehicle belongs to the Emiri Guard. In 1973-1974, six of the ADDF’s Saladins were loaned – together with their crews – to the Sultan of Oman’s Armed Forces in support of the ongoing counterinsurgency effort.
