Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR.1, XZ280, C/N 8042, No.18 (Maritime) Group, RAF Kinloss, Morayshire - 1975 - XZ280 was the first of of a second batch of six Nimrod MR.1s ordered in February 1972 to bring squadrons up to strength. It was delivered to RAF Kinloss, Morayshire on 7 April 1975 where it was operated in a pool arrangement by Nos. 120, 201 and 206 Squadrons. It was selected for conversion to AEW.3 standard and flown to BAe Woodford, Cheshire in March 1981. By mid-1986 it was on loan to the Ministry of Defence Procurement Executive, or MOD(PE), but the Nimrod AEW programme eventually failed and XZ280 was broken up at Abingdon, Oxfordshire in April 1992.
