The general appearance of Iraqi Army T-54/-55s early in the war was similar to that of all other vehicles operated by the service: a camouflage pattern consisting of yellow sand, with wide stripes of blue-green applied almost vertically down the front and sides. Turret insignia was applied in a number of ways, apparently depending on the unit in question. In this case, it consists of the letter ‘J’ (standing for ‘Jaysh’, or ‘Army’) and the digits ‘24’. Turret top and sides, and the rear deck, were often crammed with the crew’s personal belongings, water cans and machine-gun ammunition. (Artwork by Radek Panchartek)
