Dive bomber wing Sturzkampfgeschwader 2was formed in May 1939 and flew the Ju 87 Until the unit's disbandment in October 1943. It took part in the invasions of Poland and France and in the Battle of Britain. In May 1940 the Geschwader was split up with the Staff Fight ‘and |. And Il. Gruppen allocated to Luftflotte Il, facing England and ll. Gruppe was attached to Luftlotte 3 near Bonn. By August 1940 5./StG2 was based at Lannion in Brittany. The screaming penguin badge of 5 Staffel can partly be seen ‘here on Wr. Nr. 5435.
