The Bristol Type 175 Britannia emerged in the late 1940s on requirement from the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), as a medium-to-long-range airliner. A highly-promising design that was delayed by wrangling between the Ministry of Supply and BOAC over research and development costs, and engine-related problems, it was certified for service only in 1955, by then the market was swept by pure jet airliners and most of the 85 examples built were soon converted into air freighters. Aerotransporte Entre Rios began operating the type in 1967–1968, when it leased this example – registered as LV-JNL – from Batch Air, a company owned by George Batchelor. It served with the Aerotransportes Entre Rios until 12 July 1970, when written off in an accident at Ezeiza International. (Artwork by Goran Sudar)
