The IAF began receiving the Ryan Firebee drones during August 1971 in the unique 124I configuration. This permitted overflight photoreconnaissance of the hazardous anti-aircraft environment in eastern Egypt and southern Syria. Although subjected to intense fire when the missions were conducted, the drones always returned to be recovered by an S-65 helicopter snatching it from the air as the Firebee descended under parachute. This example of the drone has some comical markings added by the 200 Squadron ground crew. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
