The Soviet T-54/55 was the most numerous main battle tank in the Arab armies – a Syrian example is shown, delivered from Czechoslovakia. It provided good movement over various surfaces and the low profile added to protection from enemy fire. However, the shallow turret limited gun depression and the vehicle tended to overheat in the Middle East climate in addition to overheating the crews. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
