An IDF extensive modication of the Sherman tank was to place a Soltam M-66 160mm mortar in an entirely new superstructure. Called Makmat, it entered service in 1968. The front plate folded down for the crew to bring the bomb around to the front of the tube for loading. The vehicle carried 56 bombs. The crew of eight could defend the vehicle with a .50cal machine gun placed on the upper mount shown plus two 7.62mm FN guns on the sides. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
