Mil Mi-28N
The Mil Mi-28 is optimized for the anti-tank mission, possessing improved manoeuvrability, performance and survivability over its Mi-24 predecessor, with night-fighting capability. It suffers from many of the reliability problems of the original design. Mi-28s carry their stores on four underwing pylons. The standard anti-tank configuration comprises eight anti-tank guides missiles carried in eight-tube clusters.
Other weapon options include rocket pods, incendiary tanks, sub-munition dispensers, mine-laying containers and gun pods. Currently, more than 100 Mi-28Ns are in service with the Russian Aerospace Services (illustrated below). In combat the Mi-28 has not proved invulnerable, with at least one lost to a British-made Starstreak missile in the early months of the war in Ukraine.
