Miles M.14B Magister II (REAF, FTS, 1944). The REAF acquired a large number of Miles Magister primary training aeroplanes over several years. This particular machine, supplied to the REAF in February 1939, is a Miles M.14B Magister II, having a taller rudder which largely solved the spinning problems suffered by earlier versions. It is now painter entirely in trainer yellow, including the metal panels over the front of the fuselage and the engine. By the final years of the war these aeroplanes were, however, well-worn and somewhat battered. In many cases the spats on the undercarriage had also been discarded. Here the training aeroplane is shown with its grey rubberised canvas blind-flying hood closed. Note that the serial number, written in Arabic and European numerals on the rear fuselage, is actually different in these two forms, being written large as 234 T in Arabic, and smaller as L-234 in European characters.
