Peru purchased a dozen Caproni Ca.114 fighters in 1934 – contenders with the famous Fiat Cr.32 during the 1932 Regio Aeronáutica’s new fighter programme. Twelve of these nimble fighters were acquired by the CAP and assigned to the II Escuadrón de Caza, based at Chichlayo. By 1941, the unit was reformed as the XXI Escuadrón de Caza. XXI-43-5 was a fighter assigned to the 43 Escuadrilla during its deployment to Tumbes in late July 1941, remaining in service until that unit’s disbandment in 1942. (Artwork by Luca Canossa)
