With southern battlefields proving too dangerous for them, most of about 50 SE.316C Alouette IIIs Iraq acquired in the 1970s served on the northern and central battlefields, where their significant ‘hot and high’ capabilities were of advantage. The type was equipped with the APXBézu 260 gyro-stabilised sight, which enabled the deployment of AS.12 ATGMs. Many Iraqi Alouette IIIs have received improved sand filters installed on their engine intakes during the second half of the 1980s.
