The 2S1 Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer made a relatively late appearance in the Iran-Iraq War. While based on the extended chassis of the MT-LB carrier, they were equipped with a modified variant of the 122mm 2A18 towed howitzer. Gvozdikas became the primary equipment of two batteries in each artillery battalion of every armoured division as of 1987. All the examples known to have been operated by the Iraqis as of that time were painted in yellow-sand overall, and seem to have worn no special insignia. (Artwork by Peter Penev)
