The Japanese Type 0 reconnaissance floatplane (manufacturer name: Mitsubishi F1M2) was known by the Allied codename “Pete” (in Japanese: zero shiki suijō kansokuki - reikan in short). Like the Jake, the Pete was widely used during the entire Pacific War and thus also appeared in the Aleutian Islands. During the initial phase of the campaign, the seaplane tender Kamikawa Maru brought some Petes to provide air cover over the conquered Attu and Kiska, yet soon, she was ordered to withdraw due to bold American air attacks.
