The FV438 was the Swingfire-armed member of the FV432 family of vehicles. It carried two ready to launch Swingfire missiles in bins in a turret mounted on the rear hull and a further 14 reloads internally. Swingfire was an early second-generation SACLOS missile system and was able to defeat most then-current Warsaw Pact armour. It appears that some infantry battalions operated FV438s for a brief period in the mid-1970s before control was passed to the Royal Artillery. They then passed to the Royal Armoured Corps with the 1983 reorganisation but were phased out without replacement by around 1986. (Artwork by David Bocquelet)
