The AT 105 Saxon was essentially an armoured Bedford MK truck. Originally a commercial venture, the British Army began to introduce it to service in the mid-1980s where it equipped 1st Infantry Brigade, assigned to UKMF, and 24th Brigade of 2nd Infantry Division. It was intended to offer a limited degree of protection to its passengers while they travelled to the battlefield but had poor off-road mobility. Plans to equip Territorial Army units with the Saxon never came to fruition, indeed, even the regular battalions that did receive it only had sufficient for their rifle companies; all support elements remained in soft-skinned vehicles.
