Portugal acquired 152 Dornier Do-27 light utility aircraft (149 for the FAP and three for Guinea’s civil aviation service, the TAGP) between 1961 and 1979. During the war a dozen of these rugged, versatile craft were typically present in Guinea, where they performed light transport, visual reconnaissance, liaison, command and control, MEDEVAC, and light attack/escort duties. Six Do-27s were lost to operational accidents or hostile fire during approximately 30,000 sorties flown throughout the conflict. (Artwork by Paulo Alegria)
