This is a reconstruction of the Hunter F.Mk 6 serial number 706/G, as flown by Farouq Abdeen during the air combat at Samu on 13 November 1966. Painted in dark sea grey (BS381C/638, FS36173), and dark green (BS381C/241, FS34079) on top surfaces and sides (applied in the standard pattern), and left in high-speed silver finish on undersides, the jet had its nose and fin painted in red, according to the UAC order from 1964. Abdeen then applied a kill marking in the form of a small blue Star of David on a white field, outlined in blue, directly below the cockpit. The aircraft is shown in standard configuration for quick reaction alert of the time, including four 100-gallon drop tanks, and gun blast diffusers. Notably, the jet had the ‘late’, slightly longer version of No. 1 Squadron’s insignia with 10 instead of eight red and white fields per line. (Artwork by Tom Cooper)
